"As I watch the farmer plow the fields, I spin myself a new home. My webs get destroyed after rough winds pass through. It doesn’t help that whenever the farmer spots me in a new home, he does everything in his power to obliterate my existence. I find peace in soft breezes. They aren’t too rough that they destroy my webs, but the way that they ripple my web is calming. When I get bored or I try to hide, I got to my favorite spot. My favorite spot is on the fence right by the cows. They don’t become startled by my presence. When the water droplets fall upon my web they track through all the lines. All the small bugs get trapped in my web, “Yum.” At the end of the day, I rest upon my web and wait for the sun to rise so my work can begin."
-Narrative from the Point of View of a Spider by Hailey Allen
Today we went to Carriage Hill Farm. We had to wait to get on the bus because the rain was pouring down hard. When we got there it seemed small, because you could only see the field and the farm house. Kaylee and I split from the big group and we went on the trails first. We explored pretty far, all the way to a nearby street and then we turned around to go back. Most of the trails were closed off to hikers since they were for horses. Kaylee and I were not wearing the proper clothes today at all. I was wearing socks and sandals and jeans and a crew neck sweatshirt. Kaylee was wearing tennis shoes with fuzzy socks and leggings. Our shoes were getting super muddy because of the recent rain. we had to constantly put our feet in the river so that we could get the mud off our feet and the shoes. After we went on a hike, we went to a water fountain and met up with our other two friends. We walked around the farm house which included a blacksmith station and a few houses and sheds. We said hi to the blacksmith and then went to go pet the baby sheep which were so cute. They kept running over to Kaylee and I so we could pet it. After that, we split up with our friends again and went into a flowing river rapid and started throwing rocks with a couple of the juniors. After we left that, we went on another short hike towards a dead end river which was really pretty and deep and the water felt really good because it was really humid. We walked towards the cemetery and read about the people. Kaylee and I walked farther ahead and saw a small frog and then when we heard our other friends coming up, we ran ahead and hid in a tree and scared them. Luckily, they weren't very close to us or else they would have punched us. Kaylee and I went straight ahead and saw the main house and then went back to the flowing river rapid and tried to look for crawdads. We then went back to the sheep and then went to go eat lunch with our original group. After lunch, we listened to music and waited to go back to the school. Today was super fun and I had a lot of fun in the river rapid and walking was super fun.
